The market
Traditionally strong in pharmaceuticals and fueled by giants Novartis and Roche, Switzerland has a keen focus on innovative therapeutic biotech companies but also a strong medtech sector. Despite the presumed high cost, many companies carry out R&D and manufacturing in Switzerland.
- The country is home to a high number of global life science company HQ’s
- Switzerland har one of the strongest medtech industries in Europe
- Switzerland has a high number of biotech companies relative to the country’s size
- The country performs strongly when it comes to financing private life science companies
Three big clusters – the Lake Geneva area, the Basel region and Zurich-Zug-Lucerne – account for the lion’s share of the gross value added of the Swiss pharmaceutical industry.
